Sominex Sleepwalk leads to WAKEUP Call
by Southern Yankees (35+ Division)

The Southern Yankees rallied very late against a resilient pesky Met's team and escaped with a 11-9 victory .... MORE to follow. In MLB- The NY Yankees were having difficulty scoring runs as they dropped 2 of 3 to the Orioles & Tigers this week while their bats were mostly silent. As many of you know- they rarely bunt, move runners over or heaven forbid employ a hit and run to try and create some runs when the big bats aren't connecting. We have had this discussion with many Yankee fans over the past few years as the new Manager BOONE is following the script of the old one he replaced Girardi and losing many games by one run. There is too much emphasis on the long ball. When things aren't happening you have to make them happen as I learned early on when Billy Martin was Manager and I was covering the Yankees for a TV station. Spending many games in the 3rd base photographers well and having press passes to the dugouts taught me early on how to create when Reggie Jackson wasn't hitting home runs that game. Those were the days with George Steinbrenner, Dave Righetti, Catfish Hunter, Ron Guidry, Lou Pinella, Rick Cerone Thurman Munson & the beloved Don Zimmer, who played the game differently and manufactured runs when the offense wasn't in a dream like state. Perhaps GM Brian Cashman will reach out & give me a call and I will be the Angel in the dugout on the bench who makes suggestions to the current Yankee Manager. BELIEVE ME- DON Zimmer would be proud and we would have the other teams guessing and not knowing whats coming. It would be more exciting and unpredictable and the fans would love the alternative style that would be employed when the situation warranted . I'm ready to help Brian! Well the Southern Yankees were also sleepwalking in the game vs the always tough Mets. After 5 INNINGS it was 8-2 Mets and the Yankees couldn't get anything going. But as you know and if you read these columns the Southern Yankees try to create, manufacture and steal a run here and there when a wake up call is needed. In the 6TH AND 7TH innings the Southern Yankees employed steals hit and runs and sacrifices and took advantage of some throwing miscues by the Mets. They erupted for 8 runs in those innings and led 10-8 late. Joe Delauder pitched well again giving up only 3 earned runs as the Mets took advantage of some sloppy play in the infield by the Yankees. But Bobby Stallone who Page Six reported was out way past curfew the night before at NYY STEAK -shut down the pesky Mets batters the rest of the way. Who says you cant stay out late till 2 AM pregame night and drink /party and not perform the next day. Like I said we learned under Billy-Ball back in the day that its what you do ON the field not OFF it. Joe D'Arelli and Eric Judd who has turned into a Monster hitter again clubbed 3 hits apiece to lead the Southern Yankees attack. Sam Bartoletta who was out hustling everyone CRUSHED 2 hits along with Bobby Stallone & Player/ Manager Ray Asmar. After being on the injured list Asmar was returning from a 13 month absence in the batters box. As he approached the plate BIG BLUE looked in disbelief and said - you still playing ??? Asmar looked the umpire right in the eye and said AT 61 they said I was done, at 62 you thought I was through and nearing 63 well just watch this and you'll see. With a young stud Cuban pitcher on the mound Asmar started singing to himself Havana ooh na na, my heart is in Havana ooh na na and told the catcher to make sure he throws me a fastball. For full effect open the song in another window and play it while you read the commentary!. Moving on - He proceeded to deliver by smacking a couple hits thru the hole and was thoroughly razzed by his fellow teammate players. We love the comaraderie. It certainly felt good at least till after the game. So as we always tell you get back in the batters box of life and good things will happen. To all the SOUTH FLORIDA BASEBALL LEAGUE players out there- don't think for one minute that you don't have what it takes to compete against top notch talented baseball players. You DO have what it takes and remember its your head that leads your astray not your'e God given talents. Keep playing as long as you can or you will regret it down the road. The Southern Yankees play the super tough Miami Cardinals this coming Sunday at 10 am in Delray -Beach at Pompey Park. We need to play better as a team especially defensively -to get in a playoff position. As you know we wind down this SFBL Winter season and quite possibly our nostalgic and memorable years in the next two months. So lets go out in style and play the way we are capable of collectively. Great comeback by the Southern Yankees against a resilient Mets team. KUDOS to Mets Manager Mike & to the young pitcher throwing bullets. Also a shout out of recognition to opponent catcher & slugger Danny from the Mets who smacked 3 hits including a long long home run into the pickleball courts in right estimated field at 375 feet. Hope you enjoyed the color commentary- you think writing this EXHALTATION AND NONSENSE is easy??? It takes hours and hours LOL! In closing Thank you for your time this time until next and ALWAYS REMEMBER TO STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!
