| The Black Sox barely survived as an unbeaten on a Sunday when the bats stayed home. With a little timely defense, a few straggler runs, and a heaping serving of luck, the Sox improved to 10-0. It took 10 innings to win a game that probably should have turned out in the Cubs favor, but that's baseball.
The Sox managed 13 hits on the day, but could never put them together in one inning, as Cubs hurler Chris Jaegar kept the Sox off-balance. Brent Skinner was the hero of the day at the plate, pounding out a pair of clutch line-drives and scoring two very important runs to give the Sox a chance. Christian Martinez also had 2 hits , scoring once with a stolen base. Matt Vorwald picked up 3 RBI, including a sac fly in the 10th that drove in the winning run.
On defense, the Black Sox dodged severval bullets, but non larger than when Pat Roemer worked his way out of a bases-loaded no-out jam. Roemer walked off the mound unscathed after a line drive shot went directly to Jordan Cook, who made a diving catch at first, doubled the runner off, and then threw to shortstop to complete an amazing triple-play. Without that fortunate turn of events, it looked like the Cubs were poised to take over the game.
Matt Vorwald started the game off on the mound, working 4 scoreless frames while striking out 6. Pat Roemer had his aformentioned amazing inning. Ryan Millican threw 3 innings, yielding just 2 hits and one run, striking out 3. Drew Morris hit some bumps, allowing 3 runs before Tommy Watkins came on to stave off a Cubs bid to win the game in the 9th. Watkins worked out of an inherited jam to keep the game tied at 4, before returning to close out the 10th for his first win.
