The Lee County Black Sox have now won 12 straight Fort Myers Hardball League games, after pounding the Cubs Sunday at Dunbar HS. The Sox lead the league by a wide margin in both Runs Scored (11.8) and Runs Allowed (4.6) per game.
Sunday's offensive burst was driven by the long ball, as Mike Chikosky and Ron DeFreitas both parked homeruns. Chikosky was 2-4 with 3 RBI on a double and his 2nd HR in as many games. DeFreitas was a perfect 2-2 with 4 runs scored, 3 RBI, a HR, BB and HBP. Christian Martinez also had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-3 with a walk, run, and a stolen base. Jesse Grinstead broke out with 2 hits and two runs, while knocking in an RBI. Drew Morris and Justin Cook each walked twice, with Cook also chipping in a 2-RBI double.
Part of the run discrepancy was also due to a difference in free passes allowed. While the Sox were able to coax 7 walk and one HBP, the Cubs were not give a single runner via charity. Matt Vorwald picked up his 5th win with 5 innings of work, allowing 4 hits and a run with 4K. Pat Roemer continued the precision with 2 innings, striking out 3 and allowing one to score. Ryan Millican finished off the walk-free day, closing out the final 2 innings while striking out 2.
The Sox will face the Cape Coral Padres (2-4) next Sunday at Dunbar, hoping to extend their league-best streak to lucky 13.
