| The Lee County Black Sox extended their league-best winning streak to 11 games with a closely contested win over the San Carlos All-Stars. The All-Stars always seem to bring their best against the Sox, and this game was no exception. They played mostly-solid defense, with some brilliant web gems to stifle several Black Sox innings. Joey Rosado kept the Sox bats in check by changing speeds and inducing ground balls.
The Black Sox, however, were able to come up with some handy glove work of their own. Jay Guy made a brilliant diving stop on a line drive into the left-center gap, then bounced up and threw a missile to Ron DeFreitas. DeFreitas made a lightning-quick relay throw right over the bag to Drew Morris, who slapped the tag on the All-Stars' runner to negate a would-be double. It was a play truly worthy of Sportscenter coverage.
At the plate, the quiet Sox bats were bailed out by Mike Chikosky's clutch 3-run homerun to cap a big 1st inning. Contributions also came via Brad Haley's 2-RBI game, which included a sac fly. Randy Summerall stayed hot, picking up another pair of hits and a run. Matt Vorwald hit safely twice with a double and two runs, including one of the ugliest stolen bases in baseball history. Tommy Watkins scored twice, reaching via RBI single and a walk, swiping a bag. Jason Guy had an RBI double and a walk, and Justin Cook reached twice via hit and free pass. Jeff Perry also picked up a hit to extend his team-high batting average to .571 on the year.
The Sox moved to 5-0 on the season heading into the Thanksgiving break. For player profiles, pictures and more, visit http://www.leecountyblacksox.com |
