With the departure of Dan Smith, and the absence of Matt Vorwald and Jeff Balser, the Lee County Black Sox found itself facing a pitching shortage heading into their matchup with the powerful Cape Coral Grinders. Unfortunately for the Grinders, Pat Roemer answered the call, and pitched a 6 inning, 1 earned run effort to chalk up another win for the Sox.
Offensively, the Black Sox didn't miss a beat, knocking out their standard 15 runs to cruise through the game. Jason Guy set the tone from the leadoff spot, picking up 2 hits and scoring three times with a walk and a SB. Randy Summerall also picked up 2 hits and a walk, driving in 2 RBI with a SB. Justin Cook had a big game, picking up 4 RBI on two hits with a double, a walk, and a SB. Drew Morris picked up a double and an RBI on his two hit day. Christian Martinez banged out a pair of hits as well, scoring twice with 2 SB. Brad Haley, Ron DeFreitas, and Jordan Cook all reached home for a pair of runs each, while Tommy Watkins knocked in 2 RBI with a SB and a sac fly.
Morris would also make his Black sox pitching debut, coming in for the final 2 innings to shut the door. The Black Sox move to 4-0 on the season, opening up a 1.5 game lead on the Hitmen and the All-Stars -- who they face next Sunday.
