Black Sox Bats Pound Away: Win (17-3) vs. Hitmen
by Lee County Black Sox (Open Division)

The Lee County Black Sox offense returned to its normally explosive ways, pounding out 16 hits and 17 runs in a decisive victory over the normally potent Fort Myers Hitmen. After jumping out to a 3-run 1st inning lead, the Black Sox continued to expand their margin from the 4th inning on. The score was 10-0 after 6 innings, as Matt Vorwald silenced the Hitmen attack. They only managed to poke 4 singles during that stretch, striking out 7 times while reaching once on error and once by hit batter. Meanwhile, the Sox offense went to work, with each player in the lineup reaching base. They also stole an uncharacteristically high 8 bases. Dan Smith had a standout performance, knocking out 3 hits (one 2B) and 3 RBI while also walking in his other plate appearance and stealing a base. He scored all four times. Mike Chikosky also drove in 3 runs, collecting a pair of hits, and a sac fly. Brad Haley drove in two with 2 hits and a walk, scoring twice. Tommy Watkins reached twice by walk, once by HBP, scoring three runs and stealing a base. Vorwald picked up a pair of hits, a walk and an RBI. Jesse Grinstead added two runs to the mix, and Christian Martinez swiped a pair of bags. Jeff Perry came in and logged two effective innings to close out the game, striking out two while allowing 3 hits over two innings. He also helped extend the lead with an RBI double to left center. The game appeared to deflate the Hitmen's efforts as it went on, and was eventually called due to time limit. For player profiles, pictures and more, visit http://www.leecountyblacksox.com
