| Like two elephants attempting a tango, the Mets and Cardinals put up two of the ugliest defensive performances of the season on Sunday, making for a very interesting baseball game.
Joe costanzo took the hill for the Cards, going 4 relatively quiet innings and allowing 2 earned runs. Jay Robinson would follow, posting zeros for the 5th and 6th innings before being relieved by a man known only as Oscar. At this point in the game, the floodgates seemed to open on both sides, with untimely errors and 3 walks ending the outing for the promising reliever. James Lefko would finish the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings to shut the door and keep the game out of reach for the Mets.
Fortunately for the Cardinals, the offensive production seen in week 1 returned, headlined by James Lefko's 3 for 4 day. In a postgame interview, coach Jay Robinson had this to say: Our lineup showed a lot of patience today. We did a much better job of picking out pitches, and coming through in those clutch situations. I see a couple of guys on this team that seem to be ready to carry us on their back, and that's going to be a huge asset over the coming weeks. Time will tell, but after a 2-1 start to the season, this Cardinals team is already exceeding the expectations of many baseball experts. |
