BACK ON THE FIELD MAKING DUE WITH WHAT YOU'VE GOT
by Southern Yankees (35+ Division)

A great pleasure in life as we have mentioned numerous times here before; is doing WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY YOU CANNOT DO. You know the naysayers and disbelievers or negative nellies who will try and convince you that something can't be done. They basically live in fear their whole lives and will regret the chances they didn't take or the opportunities they walked away from. If you are waiting for the all clear signal in any aspect of life/business or red carpet to roll out & say OK go for it -then you will surely likely to have many regrets as soon as tomorrow or later on in life. Especially now in this Upside/Down world where we are being attacked on all fronts you better stay nimble. So you may be wiser to take advantage of any opportunities that are put in front of you. Remember what the GREAT ONE 99 GRETZKY said- you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Well the Southern Yankees returned to the baseball field in the SOUTH FLORIDA BASEBALL LEAGUE OVER 35 DIVISION and despite being shorthanded they made due with what they had. With many players out the Yankees nickl'ed & dime'd the South Florida Dodgers by a score of 7-2. The game was much closer than it looks as the Yankees led 2-1 after the first few frames and 4-1 after 6 innings and kept the Dodgers from coming back. The Yankees left 15 men on base and the Dodgers left 10 but timely defense kept both teams from scoring. Bobby Stallone went 8 innings and uncharacteristically gave up 7 walks and plunked 2 Dodger batters. Unfortunately for the Dodgers and the good hitting team that they are- they couldn't take advantage of all the free charity and were unable to capitalize. Some slick infield defense and timely double plays kept the Dodgers from clawing back & Stallone was very happy with his teams fielding play. Eric Judd was dominant and finishing the game with a perfect 123 inning along with 2 strikeouts to close it out. Steve Sandman was the hitting star with a couple of long doubles in the gap and a perfectly laid down bunt to keep an inning going and move the line. Double S finished with 4 Superfecta hits and Sam Bartoletta and Eric Judd added 2 knocks each. Bobby Esposito was on base 4 times and rest of the lineup did their part in the contest. Good seeing Carlos Pandolfo, Rick Hernandez & Lee Gonzalez etc still playing and excelling out there with the rest of the old time veterans like myself who love the game. So next time one of those buzzkills tells you something can't be done or is too risky take a step back- smile politely and prove them wrong. There isn't a day that goes by in our lives where we meet or hear someone giving us resistance. Or a group or entity that says NO WAY & is contrary to what your heart is telling you to do. Well if you have read the Southern Yankees SFBL color commentary over the past seasons you know that this writer will always send a message of inspiration & enthusiasm. Go back and look under SCORES/SOUTHERN YANKEES as they are all there online from the past many years. If you need motivation and who doesn't read them and you will pump yourself up especially if others at work or at home don't acknowledge what you bring to the table. The message of inspiration whether it be on the baseball field or in life is this. If you think you can,-you can!. That simple. Norman Vincent Peale wrote the book. Its your head that leads you astray not your God given talents athletic skills or heart. We all have resistance especially now be it health financial or personal. As I frequently tell you the wheel of life is always turning and soon it will turn in your favor. Remember any obstacles in your way are NEVER as difficult to overcome as they first seem, Its always about picking yourself up after you get knocked down that matters. How high you bounce after that is up to you but never doubt that each & every one of you playing in the SFBL AND YOU THE READER HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A SUCCESS ON & OFF THE FIELD! Make due with what you've got and good things will follow. As usual your comments and feedback on this color commentary are always welcomed and appreciated. You think writing this recap is easy lol!? ENOUGH FOR TODAY . Thank you for your time this time until next and once again in keeping with tradition for this column- ALWAYS REMEMBER TO STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS! submitted by Ray Asmar Player/Manager Southern Yankees SOUTH FLORIDA BASEBALL LEAGUE 35+ DIVISION
