POST SUPER BOWL ALL AROUND EFFORT! The Southern Yankees upended the Miami Reds by a score of 10-4 as they excelled in an all around team effort. The game started out with both teams scoring two runs in the opening frame and after a tight few innings the score was 3-3 going into the fifth. The Southern Yankees must have had the old Clash tune Should I stay or should I go playing in their heads. Why you ask? Well they ran themselves out of and actually into more bases as the base running was comical yet worked out. As they looked for their signals from third and asked themselves- If I go there will be trouble- Should I stay or should I go! Well defensive miscues by the Miami Reds left our runners off the hook and no harm was done. The Southern Yankees broke it open in the 6th scoring a crooked number and led 10-3 going into the late innings. The Reds scored a meaningless run late and the final was 10-4 as Eric Judd once again went the distance and dominated. Sam Bartoletta put on a defensive catching clinic with acrobatic plays on foul pops and scoops and blocks that would be wild pitches for many. He also boomed a triple to dead center and Jeff Zagaria was the Yankees hitting star with 3 sharp hits. Good seeing Brent the all star along with Player/Manager Ray Alonso who has a classy squad. We wish you the best this season and will play you again I am sure. Also wanted to mention our commentary from last week before the Super Bowl contest as the prediction was spot on and hope you took advantage of that insightful information by collecting some disposable dead presidents for your wallets. On a much more serious note our hearts & prayers go out to the victims of the terrible school tragedy that took place in out back yard. The Southern Yankees will wear their black uniforms next game on Sunday February 18th at Sugar Sand Park @130 PM in honor of those fallen students and teachers. We hope there are some common sense laws passed to help stop this from continuing to our children & the teachers who mold their young minds so they have a bright future.........That is how we sign off this weeks commentary in tribute to all those affected. Ray Asmar- Southern Yankees Player/Manager
