A's Battle Jays to 7-7 Tie
by Coral Gables Athletics (Premier Division)

The A's battled the Miami Jays on Sunday to a 7-7 tie. Considering their usual play, both teams played relatively sloppy games committing a total of 9 errors in the game which both teams taking advantage of the various mistakes. The Jays took early leads in the game but the A's were able to come back each time and had a 7-6 lead going into the final inning (8th, time limit), but the Jays were able to take advantage of a couple errors by the A's in the inning to score a run and then shut down the A's in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the tie. Despite a disappointing Sunday, the A's did have some bright spots. Nick Melendres made his debut with the A's and looked sharp starting for the A's on the bump and went 2-3 at the plate. Alex Arteaga relieved Nick and went the next 4 and despite a rough 3rd inning, retired the final 9 batters he faced and struck out 5 to add to his league lead. Andrew Lane pitched the final 2 innings and struck out 3, giving up an unearned run. Offensively, the A's had 2 hit games from Albert Jardines and Gus Diaz who each continue their hot hitting. Ernie Lorenzo delivered a clutch RBI double early while Aron Marcinkoski continued his tear with a 1-3 day with another stolen base. The big hit for the A's, however, was delivered by Andrew Lane who smoked a double over the left fielder in the 6th to drive in two and give the A's the late lead. The shot was with two outs. As usual, the A's played a very tough Jays team which battled with the A's inning to inning. We look forward to our next game!
