Offense out to Lunch
by Southern Yankees (35+ Division)

The South Florida Dodgers edged the Southern Yankees 6-4 as great pitching and good defense won the game. more to follow.... Most of you have heard the creative music from talented singer & pop sensation Meghan Trainor & John Legend. Well they collaborated on a song you all have heard of and one that the Southern Yankees batters obviously should listen to before their next game. Still guessing what it is? No its not the song ALL about that bass but in this case it had a BASEball reference. I'm gonna love you Like I'm gonna lose you was the song. Let me explain. Turn the music video on in one window on your computer and read the commentary while its playing and you will get the full effect. C'mon how long have you been reading these commentaries? You know the drill! The Southern Yankees & South Florida Dodgers squared off on a spectacular 81 degree morning game at Sunset Park in Plantation. The contest started out with the Yankees scoring quickly as the first three batters loaded the bases and it looked like Dodgers veteran pitcher Carlos Pandolfo was on the ropes. After a long sacrifice fly from pitcher Eric Judd the Yankees went quietly and only managed to score 2 runs. The Yankees and their once potent offense were not connecting. Like the song says Im gonna hold you like im saying goodbye was in reference to their non producing bats and maybe they need new ones. Or perhaps they squeezed them too tight. The Dodgers fought right back in the bottom of the first and scored one to make it 2-1 Southern Yankees after an inning. Everyone thought this would be a slugfest but both offenses would be out to lunch. The Yankees scored one more a few innings later and after 5 it was 3-1 Yankees in a very tight contest. A new high octane flame throwing Dodger pitcher came in and in the blink of an eye all the yankees saw was a whisper of smoke just like the lyrics say in the song. The Dodgers scored 4 runs in the sixth off middle reliever Alex Hummer who was uncharacteristically wild and didnt get any help from his defense. Sam Bartoletta the Yankees MVP and catcher was the exception as he blocked numerous bounced pitches and was in the hot tub for 3 days after the game. After 7 it was 5-3 Dodgers in this still wide open game. Both teams scored a run in the 8th and the final was 6-4 as taking another line from the song you never know when we'll run out of time and the yankees team certainly did. Miggy franquiz led the feeble 5 hit attack with two ropes but great pitching kept the Yankees hitters in check. So after the game the Yankees may be saying goodbye to their non producing bats and perhaps buy some new ones with a little more mustard on them. For the Yankees Eric Judd was brilliant again on the mound and Jose De los Rios was dazzling in late relief. Good seeing sluggers Lee Gonzalez & David Hopwood, who we targeted for stardom in these columns a couple seasons ago . Also hats off to wily veteran Carlos P. who you have to admire still playing competitive amateur baseball with the youngsters. Good luck to the Dodgers and we are surely hopeful to see you again later on in the playoffs if we can get the offense scoring again. We look for a more enthusiastic effort this coming weekend. The Southern Yankees go against the unbeaten untouched & perennial champs -the Palm beach Angels . The two arch- rivals square off in a morning contest Sunday March 4 at beautiful Sabal Pines Park in Coconut Creek. Thank you for your time this time until next and ALWAYS remember to: Stay Thirsty My Friends! submitted by Ray Asmar Player/Manager Southern Yankees
