It was a very hot and humid day at Coral Gables High School. The D-Backs came out in the top of the 1st with 2 runs on 3 hits for an early 2-0 lead. The Black Bats came up in the bottom of the 1st and had 2 outs with runners on 2nd and 3rd when Eddie Capote and Andy Chavarriaga collided in short left field, causing Eddie Capote to damage his ACL, MCL, and miniscus. Eddie will be having surgery and is out for the rest of the season. On the play, the ball was dropped and 2 runs scored as a result for a 2-2 tie game after 1 inning. The Bats would put up a run in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd, while the D-Backs kept pace with 3 runs in the 3rd for a 5-5 tie game. The D-Backs would score 2 runs in the 5th, answerd by a run for The Bats for a 6-5 D-Backs lead after 5 innings. The Bats would regain the lead in the 6th with 2 more runs, but The D-Backs would plate a run in the 7th for an 8-8 tie game going into the bottom of the 7th. With time expiring, The Bats would capitalize on a crucial error that would have ended the game in a tie and singled in the winning run to end this exciting game for a D-Backs 9-8 loss. Andy Chavarriaga (3 runs scored) and Xavier Ubiera (4 RBI's) each went 3-4 on the day. Larry Hernandez chipped in 2 hits. John Delgado had 3 RBI's. Jay Habacht pitched 4 innings, giving up 2 earned runs and recorded a no decision. Alex Dickson for The Bats pitched 6 innings and also recorded a no decision. Great game to Ichiro and The Black Bats!
