Southern Yankees edged by tough pitching of Reds
by Southern Yankees (28+ Division)

The South Florida Reds edged the Southern Yankees 7-4 in a close battle and well piched game. The young 23 year old flamethrower from the Reds threw lots of heat for the first 5 frames. Then to make it even tougher on the shorthanded Yankees; the Reds brought in a 19 year lefty with one of the best curveballs in the league. The game was a tight well played battle throughout and the Southern Yankees had a big chance in the top of the ninth with runners on and Christian De la Rosa at the plate. He launched a missile into the gap but the outstanding Reds centerfielder dove and robbed the Yankee shortstop of an extra base hit. Dela rosa and Joe Darelli were stellar in the infield turning 3 excellent double plays along with first baseman Frank Crupi who was gold glove at first base with his scoops on the wet field. Franklin Brito pitched one of his best games ever and was brillant on the mound. Reidy Oliva clubbed a mammoth homerun into the trees in left center and was Thurman Munson like behind the plate filling in at the dish. Oliva led the Southern Yankees with two hits in a game where the lineup was stymied by excellent pitching from the young Reds flamethrowers. The Yankees had nine hits along with 9 strikeouts & just needed to put more hits together and the outcome would have been different. We played tough and look forward to a rematch down the road with all our players back. Hats off to the reds and manager Donny: you have a really good team and we wish you luck in the future. As far as the Southern Yankees are concerned we look to get back some of our missing pieces and know that we lost 3 close games that could have gone the other way if we had our full squad at the ballpark. Next game this Sunday 7/28 vs the Miami Brewers at Sunset Park again a 10 am game time. Stay thirsty my friends!
