D-Backs walk off win, clinch playoff birth
by Dade Diamondbacks (28+ Division)

It was another rainy day at American High School. After a scoreless top of the 1st inning, the game was delayed over 30 minutes after a deluge erupted in the 2nd inning (from 1 tiny cloud). The sun, players and grounds keeper worked hard to make the field playable and get the game going. The D-Backs would score 2 runs in the 2nd inning for an early 2-0 lead on RBI hits From Omar Fernandez and Jay Habacht. The Reds countered with 2 runs of their own in the 3rd for a 2-2 tie game. The D-Backs would again strike with 3 runs in the 3rd for a 5-2 lead after 3 innings. The Reds fought back with 2 runs in the 4th and The D-Backs would add another run in the 4th for a 6-4 lead after 4 innings. Both teams traded runs in the 5th for a 7-5 lead. The Reds again came back with 2 runs in the 6th to tie the game 7-7. With time running out, The D-Backs had 1 last chance in the 6th inning. Jay Habacht walked, then stole 2nd. Jeff Bender came up with 1 out and hit the ball deep down the 3rd base line for the game winning walk-off hit! The victory punched The D-Backs ticket to the playoffs as the #3 seed. The Reds loss knocked them out of 1st place, and created another match up between these two well matched squads. Mario Figueredo, Omar Fernandez, Jay Habacht and Xavier Ubiera each had key hits in the win. Great game to Coach Donny Gagliano and The Reds. We look forward to our playoff match up with you guys in 2 weeks!
